Inpatient Alcohol Detox

Residential alcohol detox centers are a whole different environment where alcohol addicts are put into, away from friends and family but under better medical observation. It is not possible for family members to look after critically ill drug addicts at home. There is a huge chance of the addicts relapsing into their addiction when the withdrawal symptoms start, if they are treated at home. The withdrawal symptoms are painful and during this time resisting alcohol becomes very hard. At inpatient detox centers the patients are given all medical and psychological attention needed to keep the patient from relapsing.

The Concept of alcohol detox centers

Inpatient drug detox centers aim to provide chronically ill, drug and alcohol addicts, whose home care is a risky environment because patients can relapse at any time. They need to be observed intensely. It is all about providing the addicts with 24 hours of care, support, medication and most importantly, observation. During their stay the drug and alcohol addicts are made to go through an extensive process of eliminating toxic residues of alcohol from the body through prescribed medications under strict medical observation.

How Long Can Stay Last?

For a full recovery in Inpatient alcohol detox, the stay can last from a few weeks, months up to a year. During their stay in the centers the addicts not only undergo medical treatment; they are also given different kinds of therapies to enhance their social life. Patients are counseled to uplift their morale, and to make them believe that they still have the capability to live a drug free life. Such treatment programs also include group therapy sessions where a number of addicts are put in a group and asked to share their feelings and experiences of their ordeal with drug addiction. Compassion, moral support and motivation acquired in inpatient alcohol detox centers play a major role in recovery.

Inpatient Detox centers Vs Outpatient Detox Centers

There are two types of drug and alcohol treatment centers; one where the patients receive the treatment while staying outside of the facility with their family and another; inpatient, where the patients are admitted in the facility for a certain period of time and treated. Both the treatment programs have their own set of pros and cons. In layman’s language, residential alcohol detox centers are more intense and a perfect suit for patients who are chronically addicted where as, outpatient alcohol treatment centers offer detox programs which are less intense.
