Research aimed at discovering the cause of dependence has labeled opioid dependence as a chronic relapsing brain disease. To this point, there has been a recent shift in thinking about the role of medication assisted therapy.
St. Armands is one of the first outpatient clinics in the area to offer Suboxone Treatment along with psychosocial counseling to help patients detox from opiate based drugs and begin a new life. Psychosocial counseling has always been the cornerstone of successful opioid-dependence treatment. However, among the medical community there is now a greater appreciation of how combining counseling with pharmacotherapy in a comprehensive treatment plan can enhance the opportunity for treatment success.
